old green day was better.
blink is better than AVA.
AFI before 2000 was way better.

Most of those kids are scenesters....Emo is sort of dead. It's hard explaning it but the kids you think are "emo" are actually scene kids that listen to Hardcore music. So emo's sort of changed into hardcore kids. So if you see kids with hair over their faces and multicolored hair most of them call themself "scene" They don't listen to sad depressing music they listen to stupid yelling and screaming music to show how hardcore and violent they are.

So I will give you a branch of how emo became to be

Pop punk(Green Day, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, Blink 182) branched out into 2 categories Screamo/Emo and Punk Rock.

Emo (AFI, My Chemical Romance, The Used, Dashboard Confessional)

Punk(Choking Victim, The Casualties, Bad Religion)

After....Emo turned into Hardcore aka Scene

Hardcore( Chiodos, Silverstein, Rise Against, As I Lay Dying, Norma Jean)

Emo = not trendy anymore (I don't really care if it's in or not since I like it)

Hardcore = In.

I never really liked pop punk....But I love AVA since Blink never really caught my attention

So what if i'm close-minded music I only like emo and that's that. I don't care what people think i'll listen to what I like and wear what I want to regardless of what others say to you. Listen and wear what you want don't conform to social norms.
I come by here time to time :p

i dont know what you mean by pop punk branching out into screamo/emo and punk rock. punk rock was around way before the conception of pop punk. the first well-known and mainstream punk band was argueably the ramones, and their style of music was very similar to surf. Then came the more punk sounding bands like the sex pistols. The genre peaked in the 80s with legendary bands like the dead kennedys. and now there are still some loyal bands left like the casualties, cheapsex, the unseen, the havoc, career soldiers, the hoax (band promo), the scarred, and lots others

the only reason why pop punk and punk are even slightly related is because of their similar beats. besides that, the lyrics, riffs, keys, and definitely attitude are completely different. the genre of pop punk is incorrectly named and gives real punk a bad name

sorry for the music lesson but i dont want people to get any more confused.

What, no Queen? and what about The Who? Anyways, I pretty much like anything besides rap, country, screamo (stuff along those lines). Though there are "some" country songs I'll listen too. But I'll pretty much listen to anything.

Emo means emotionally charged hardcore punk, therefore people cannot be emo. People cannot be emo because people cannot be emotionally charged hardcore punk.

These "emo people" you speak of, as I said, are scenesters and probably don't listen to real emo music. Emo music was started in '84 in the DC area with a band called Rites of Spring and a similar band called Husker Du in Minnesota. Other emo bands include, Embrace, Moss Icon, Fugazi, Indian Summer, Still Life, Dag Nasty, Sleepytime Trio, Lifetime, and Jawbreaker. The whole emo genre was greatly influenced by bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag.

Emo “died” in the late 80's early 90's but gave way to post emo music and hardcore/emo bands.

After emo “died” a lot of aggressive and loud sounding bands came out that sounded nothing like Rites of Spring or Embrace. These hardcore/emo bands include Clikatat Ikatowi, Floodgate, Heroin, Mohinder, Portraits of the Past(really good), Iconoclast, and Orchid. These bands would later be the main influence to bands that will later be called screamo.

The other “wing” derived from emo is post emo. Post emo bands include Braid, Mineral, Texas is the Reason, Christie Front Drive, The Promise Ring, Jets to Brazil and Sunny Day Real Estate. If you currently listen to bands that are labeled not emo below but want to listen to real emo, I would suggest you start with post emo bands. Their sound might be less harsh on your virgin ears. If you listen to hardcore (real hardcore) or other heavier type music then I suggest you start with emo because post probably won’t tickle your fancy as much.

Bands that are NOT emo:

My Chemical Romance
The Used
Senses Fail
Hawthorne Heights
Coheed and Cambria
Post-Static Prevail
Jimmy Eat World
Underoath
Brand New
Taking Back Sunday
Matchbook Romance
Something Corporate
Silverstein
Bright Eyes
The Early November
Fall Out Boy
Dashboard Confessional

And others

Other things that are NOT emo:

A lifestyle
A personality
A mindset
A type of clothing
A feeling

Anything that is not a genre of music known as emotionally charged hardcore punk.
