TMTA: Too Many Tech Acronyms

Tech discussion and Tech Help. Feel free to ask us for any help you need!

Recently an article on the BBC website has pointed out that there are too many technological acronyms and in the end, they scare off consumers.

I find this utmostly humorous as well as true. I think we should all RTFM for our OS and sync our RSS feeds and IPTV/PVR captures on our WAP-secured PDAs ;) (see how confusing and annoying that was, now?)

I basically put that last part in to intentionally confuse you to show that there really are too many acronyms ;)

who in the wat now ?!?!
In this world of emptiness there is no form, no feelings, perceptions, impulses, or consciousness. No eye, ear, tongue body, or mind. Therefore, no color, sound, smell, taste, touch, or thought. The world of form does not exist, nor the world of the mind or of ignorance; no old age and no death.

When the mind does not become attached to anything, there are no obstacles and fear does not exist. This mind goes beyond all disruptive views and attains Nirvana

here's how I translate those acronyms

RTFM - Roll The Floor Mat
OS - Operating System
RSS - Resource Service Systems
IPTV/PVR - Internet Personal TeleVision / Personal Video Recording
WAP - Wide-Area Provider

I agree. It's not only limited to the tech world either. I find it a bit annoying when people use acronyms in every day life. Or shorten words that shouldn't be shortened.

This might prove to be a helpful site for people who need help figuring out what certain acronyms stand for. They have a searchable database which takes out the guesswork.

I'm all for the use of acronyms to speed things along, however that article is correct in saying that it's getting a bit out of hand.

um... no...

RTFM - Roll The Floor Mat (no idea)
OS - Operating System (correct)
RSS - Resource Service Systems (Really Simple Syndicate (not sure on that last S))
IPTV/PVR - Internet Personal TeleVision / Personal Video Recording (probably)
WAP - Wide-Area Provider (the other in the WEP/WAP pair (WEP= Wireless Encryption Protection (password?))
PDA - Personal Digital Assistant (right)
"You believe that there is one God? you do well; the demons also believe, and shudder."
James 2:19

The Question is not whether or not you believe in God, but rather if you believe that His son came to die on the cross for our sins so that we could recieve the gift of Salvation from God.

I believe the latter.

"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him."
John 3:16-17
