Takahashi's fate

Prologue

Prologue

After the death of King Tristran III, The Schwaltzwald Republic Invaded his kingdom. As the troops of the Schwaltzwald Republic nearly defeated the Imperial Army, or what remains of it, Five guilds came to the aid of the faltering army of Tristran’s kingdom. The Hashashins, led by Hasn Ibdn al Sabah from Morroc; The Wizard’s Legion, led by George (Jorge) San Agustin from Aldebaran; The Hunter’s guild from Payon led by Asakura Isoruko; The Knights, from Prontera led by Sir John William Lancaster, and The Merchant’s League from Geffen led by Gurrand the Strong. They Called themselves the Midgard Alliance and together drove the Schwaltzwald Republican Army back to it’s borders. After the war, these guilds quarreled among each other on who will rule Tristran’s Kingdom since Tristran had no heir. They divided the Kingdom of Tristran into 5 city states. Each master establishing a dynasty to rule their new territories.

The Kingdom of Geffen did not last long. They were deposed by the wizards of Geffen and a republic was established. Since Alberta was a colony of Geffen, the royal house of Gurrand established what was left of their house in the city of Alberta.

The Geffenian Republic was established.

Payon, Under the Expansionist Emperor Kagishima, Invaded Amatsu, Kunlun, Izlude, Byalan, Turtle and Alberta Islands. These Acquisitions made Payon the Most powerful empire in the land, contesting with the Schwaltzwald Republic for Dominance in the Eastern and Northern Sea.

And so the nations within Rune-Midgard and beyond were:

Chapter 1

The City of Payon.


The doors open as two figures entered the Great Hall of the House of Payon. The hall was dimly lit as to provide a mysterious ambience to those who wish to enter the Great Hall. At the far end of the Hall was the Chrysanthemum Throne, the symbol of the power that the Emperor of the holds. Sitting on the throne, was Takahashi, Emperor of Payon, Direct Descendant of Ameterasu and fifth emperor of the Asakura Dynasty. Takahashi is only 23 years old.

“Your Highness, there is a messenger from the king of Aldebaran, he wishes to speak to you.” The courtier said with a bow.

The messenger stepped forward and bowed at the Emperor.

“So, what does the wizard king want.” Takahashi asked the messenger.

“The House of San Agustin Invites the heads of the Royal Houses of Midgard, to a summit, your Highness.”

“What summit may this be?” Takahashi Inquired

“The king Juan Carlos wishes to convene again the Midgard Alliance.”

“the Midgard alliance hasn’t convened in over a hundred years, why convene now?”

“My king said that it is best that he himself tell the other monarchs of the reason, your highness.”

Aldebaran is a long Ally and a friend to the Payonian Empire, we would never betray a friend, Your Highness."

“Tell your king, the House of Asakura accepts his invitation.”

“thank you your highness”

Takahashi motioned to his Aide

"Call Gen. Manangsala, looks like I'll be bringing the 45th infantry as bodyguards for the convention."

“Announcing the Arrival of his Royal Highness, Rafik al Ibdn Hassan, Sultan of Morroc”

“Great, my plan is working, By God its working, Joanna. It’s working.” Said Juan Carlos, the wizard king of Aldebaran.

“If you mean your plan to gather here and convening the Midgard Alliance again, yes.” said Joanna, Queen of Aldebaran “But if you wish them to fight under your banner, and declare you king of all Midgard, that my dear is impossible.”

“And why is it impossible?” Juan asked his wife

“That’s why” Joanna said pointing at Takahashi

“Announcing the Arrival of Takahashi, Emperor of Payon, Overlord of Alberta and Turtle Islands, Master of Izlude and Byalan and the Lord protector of Amatsu and Kunlun.”


“That kid has more territories than most of the other heads of Royal houses.” Joanna said to her husband.

“I don’t count on Payon joining me.” Juan sighed. “Payon is like …….I don’t know. Payon is different from the other City States in Rune Midgard. Unpredictable. Peaceful here, ruthless there.”

“If you didn’t expect Payon to join you, why did you Invite them here?” Joanna asked her husband

“No city state wants to incur the wrath of Payon. Not even Aldebaran. I invited Takahashi as not to insult him or his house for I invited all royal houses in Midgard. And Payon is a member of the Midgard Alliance.” Replied the king.

“Announcing the Arrival of his Highness Gurrand V, Overlord of Alberta City.”

“Well Most of the Kings are here.” Joanna said to her Husband

“I still want to see if Prontera will still come after hearing that Payon will attend the convention.” Juan said smirking.

“Prontera will attend. They will not back out at an opportunity like this. Here, they can request Payon to secede the territories taken during the war with Payon. With the Council help of course.” Joanna said

“I doubt that, The alliance can only support 4 standing armies about two hundred and fifty thousand infantry and a thousand cavalry. Payon has ten standing armies, about a million infantry and ten thousand cavalry, not to mention a million more in reserve. That’s why Takahashi’s father was right. He armed his country so that so other city state will take his family from power.” Juan Carlos stated.

“have you no problem with that?” his wife asked

“I have no quarrel with Payon. I don’t intend to Start one” Stated the king of Aldebaran.


“Announcing the Arrival of his Royal Highness, Edward II, king of Prontera.”

“Well I guess you need to go down now, your guests are waiting.” Joanna said kissing her husband at the cheek.

“ I guess so.”


The Great Hall of Aldebaran

The Kings of Rune Midgard, have seated in the great hall of Aldebaran. The King of Aldebaran, stood up and delivered his speech.

“Kings of Rune Midgard. I am well honored and thankful that you have accepted my invitation. I have invited you here in this hall to rekindle the pact our grandfathers have forged over a century ago. A pact that we must strengthen if we are to survive.”

The king walked around the hall while speaking.

“For a long time now, we have lived in constant fear of our Superpower Neighbor, but that time now is over.”

With that statement, most of the other kings have reacted somewhat surprised.

Rafik, the sultan of Morroc, stood from his chair, looked at everyone inside of the great hall and spoke.

“I would not want to spoil your great speech my brother, but, what your suggesting is preposterous. The Schwaltzwald Republic still has the largest army on this planet. That means with the combined armies of Rune Midgard we will barely be able to resist another invasion.”

Gurrand spoke as well

“Even if we are able to defend ourselves, The Schwaltzwald Republic can still harass our merchant fleet.”

Takahashi, being the youngest of them all there, just kept quiet, but his thoughts were, “just give me the men, and I will conquer the world.”

Juan Carlos spoke again

“The Schwaltzwald Republic is in the midst of a political crisis. My spies have told me that the President and parliament are not in good terms. Plus the army has been downsized due to the fact that they can no longer support a large army, thanks to the economic boom of Payon.”

With the mention of His Empire’s Economic boom, Takashi was smiling, thinking finally his economic policies, once unpopular with other kings is now appreciated.

“The Schwaltzwald Republican Army now only has seven hundred fifty thousand professional Troops. And the Schwaltzwald Navy has reduced its naval presence in the eastern sea. Even if they didn’t, Payon’s navy has defeated the Schwaltzwald Navy. We can count on Payon.”

Takahashi rose at the mention of this information.

“I think, what you are suggesting, Juan Carlos, is that, we, The Kings of Rune Midgard, Invade the Schwaltzwald Republic, under your command. With the combined Armies of Rune Midgard, you will crush all opposition. Well all I can say is that, you have no idea what will this create. I will not support such actions. Payon has no quarrel with Schwaltzwald. We do not intend to start one. if the other kings of Rune Midgard will join you, I wont stop them. In this War you intend to start, Payon will remain neutral.”

“Payon is neutral with stronger enemies but bullies its weaker neighbors.” Snorted the king of Prontera

“You Started the war, Edward.” Retorted Takahashi.

“Payon was the Aggressor.”

“I can sense where this summit is going to” said Takahashi “ And I don’t want any part in it. You kings go do your war, don’t blame me if you fail. Now if you will excuse me, I have pressing matters to attend to.”


With those words, Takahashi, Emperor of Payon, walked out of the summit.

Chapter 2

War. War ravaged the land of Rune Midgard. The Allied forces have stormed the border of the Schwaltzwald Republic. They have won a series of battles since surprise was on their side. But after a few months, the tide of war turned and the Allied forces were defeated at the battle of Nifffelheim field. The Allied forces made a hasty retreat back to their borders. Now, with the Allies still recuperating from their defeat, the Schwaltzwald Republic steps up production for its war effort.


Payon still remains neutral, while the Allies still cower behind their borders, Payon puts its economy on war footing.


The Payon Great Hall

Emperor Takahashi meets the council of elders of Payon.

“My lord,” said one of the elders “we have remained neutral for the duration of this war. I cannot see why we need to put our economy of a war footing if we don’t intend to go to war.”

Takahashi spoke

“The Allies have failed in their offensive. Now as we speak, the Schwaltzwald Republic is poised to invade Rune Midgard. If the rest of the Allies are defeated, who do you think they will turn on next? Payon will be left alone to face the full might of the Schwaltzwald Republic.”

Takahashi stopped talking as to let the effect of his words sink into the minds of the elders. So far its working.

The chief of all the elders spoke

“the elders respect the decision of the emperor and will obey.”

The emperor was interrupted by an aide who brought a message. It whispered in his ear.

Takahashi spoke to the council

“I would like to finish this meeting but unfortunately, there is an important matter that just came up that I must attend to. If the council would excuse me……” Takahashi stood up.

The council understood and stood up as well.

“we will reconvene tomorrow, until then the council is adjourned.”

As Takahashi entered the briefing room, his generals stood

“As you were gentlemen.” Takahashi was seated facing the map of Rune Midgard. Present at the briefing were Gen. Akira Matsushita, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staffs, Lt. Gen. Matsushima Minoru, Commander of Payon 5th Army, Lt. Gen. Jacques du Valois, Commander, Payon 10th Army, Maj. Gen. Alberto Manangsala, 45th Infantry brigade, Commander and Adm. Junichiro Yanagata, Commander, Payon Royal Navy. Giving the briefing was Brig. Gen. Fredriech Müller, Chief of Military Intelligence.

Takahashi looked at all present and noticed most of his commanders are missing.

“If I may ask, where are my other commanders? Shouldn’t they be present here?” Takahashi asked


“Lt. Gen. Makoto Izumi and Lt. Gen. Yukito Isazumi are in their respective Areas of Command and are unable to attend the meeting on such short notice, Lt. Gen. Masaharu Homa is burying his father who passed away last week and Lt. Gen. John Anthony Kuroshima is at the hospital due to measles.” Explained Gen. Müller.

“Alright gentlemen, what is this about?” asked Takahashi.


Gen. Müller, gave the briefing.

“As of 0300 hours The Schwaltzwald Republican Army began the invasion of Aldebaran and began a siege on the city. The royal family was evacuated and the Allies have mobilized their reserves and prepares to drive out the Schwaltzwald Republican Army and relieve the siege of Aldebaran. In Morroc, The Allies are launching a naval offensive from Saint Capitolina Abbey to run a naval supply route to the defenders of Aldebaran.”

Takahashi asks “what of Alberta’s navy?”

“Alberta’s navy will be providing escort for the ships of Prontera and Aldebaran.”

“What of Morroc’s navy?”

“your highness, Morroc isn’t helping the Allies right now.”

Takahashi was in disbelief, “Why?”

“Your highness because, the Schwaltzwald Republic has convinced the small and weak Republic of Jawaii And Comodo to invade Morroc from the west. Now Morroc is preoccupied to help the allies and is busy with what they call “Operation: Desert Flower”. The Morrocan Army invades Comodo and the Morrocan Navy and Marines invade Jawaii.”

Takahashi asked “What about Louyang?”

“The Kingdom of Louyang still is neutral and is still closing its borders.”

“Gentlemen, There are only two possibilities how this conflict may turn. One, Aldebaran falls, he turns on Prontera and Geffen and aids Jawaii and Comodo in defeating Morroc. Then only Alberta and us will remain. If he wants to invade Alberta through land the Republican Army will cross our territory and we will not let that happen, so we are dragged into this conflict. Two, the allies succeed in relieving Aldebaran and invade us for not helping, we fight the off. So if we are to draw the line we should draw it right here what should we do. If we get this wrong, our empire could be lost.”


Takahashi stood up and started walking around the room and stopped at the map. Then he turned at the generals


“I want to take the Offensive to the Schwaltzwald Republic. Since this is an Invasion of Aldebaran, we are compelled to help in its defense in any way. I want an offensive strategy presented tomorrow. I know your soldiers are craving for some action, now they will get it. Mobilize the reserves, and admiral” Takahashi said at the old admiral, I want a plan to defeat the Republican Navy. I want it by tomorrow.”

Takahashi was relieved when he saw a smile in his general’s eyes

“ that will be all gentlemen. Until tomorrow then.”

Chapter 3
Planning

Takahashi couldn’t sleep, even after gorging himself with what the newest and freshest the harem has to offer. This war business was really getting into him. It wont let him sleep. So he got up and got dressed and went to the balcony. He saw his city. He thought of what he told his generals.

“They better get a good strategy, the fate of the empire is at stake.” He thought “but if I am to make a good decision, I best get some sleep.”

So we went back to his bed and slept, his hands groping the breast of the woman on his bed.

Gen. Akira Matsushita presented his plan for approval to Emperor Takahashi as Commander in Chief and to the Chiefs of Staffs. He calls the offensive as “Operation: Serpent’s Fang”

“Your Highness, Gentlemen, Operation: Serpent’s Fang’s objective is to relieve the defenders of Aldebaran and restore the former borders. We will be the de facto peace keeping forces until the Midgard Alliance and the Schwaltzwald Republic reach a peace agreement. This operation will require 8 of our 10 standing armies and the constant support of our navy.”

He paused as he took a pointer and used it to point at the map.

“The operation calls of an amphibious invasion of the Aldebaran Coast behind the lines of the Schwaltzwald Republican Army. This will cut their lines of communications and retreat. This is phase one. In phase two, the Navy will make the Schwaltzwald navy ineffective in deep sea operations by an attack on the Schwaltzwald Navy’s Eastern Sea Fleet Headquarters at Kiel Hyre’s Cottage. This attack will render the Eastern fleet ineffective assert our dominance in the area.”

Akira was looking at Takahashi and trying to guess what his emperor would think of his plan.

“The third phase of the operation is to secure vital installations in the eastern sea to stop further incursions of the Schwaltzwald Navy in the eastern sea. This requires us to invade Louyang. This requires the all Royal Marines’ combat divisions since the army could spare none.”

Gen. Matsushita, walked to a calendar and spoke again.

“These must all be accomplished within three to four months, otherwise we will be compelled to fight a long war.”


“The first phase will be the directive of the army while the second and third phases will be the navy’s. each arm will be responsible for the success of its directive. It is pertinent that each does it’s duties. The rise and fall of our empire will rest in this incursion of ours.”


Takahashi spoke “I have full confidence in my commanders. I want details of the phases as they will be implemented by each arm of the armed forces by next week. That will be all gentlemen.”


Two days later

Payon Royal Navy Headquarters

Admiral Junichiro Yanagata gathered his Naval General Staff. The meeting was held at the Royal Navy Headquarters, so that security and secrecy were to be maintained. Present at the meeting were Adm. Ichiro Masahari, commander of the Eastern Fleet based at Alberta Island; Adm. Kameto Kurita, commander of the Northern Fleet based at Amatsu; Adm. Koichi Nagara, commander of the South ern Fleet based in Turtle Island; Adm. Nobutake Ayayumi, commander of the Naval Expeditionary Forces based in Izlude and Rear Adm. Ichiko Wakira, Head of Naval Intelligence. Also present was Gen. Matsuhita Hakone, Commander of the Royal Marines.

Adm. Yanagata drummed his hand at the oak table where the map of the entire eastern sea was placed. He briefed his commanders on what the joint chiefs planned and wanted the Royal Navy to achieve and the time limit in which they are supposed to achieve victory.

Adm. Kameto Kurita spoke, breaking the silence after the briefing.

“Admiral, the only way we are able to attain success in the high seas is to provoke the Republican Navy into a decisive engagement. If the Republican navy refuses to go out and face us the only option we have is to fight with them in their home waters.”

Koichi Nagara spoke in contrary to what Kurita just said.

“with all do respect Admiral, even in their home waters, we still have the advantage, we have technologically superior ships. The most modern ship in the Republican navy is their flagship the Juno which has 8 15” guns mounted in four turrets and travels at 28 knots. The Republican Navy has 28 battleships, 15 heavy cruisers 12 light cruisers 50 destroyers and 65 frigates in their Eastern Sea fleet. And that is half of their navy already.”

Nobutake Ayayumi spoke.

“Kameto, don’t let the smell of victory lead you to the possible stench of defeat. We may have defeated the Republican Navy in Individual engagements but we have not yet seen how they operate as a fleet. Let us just assume that they also operate like us and try to figure out what for them is the best course of action. Maybe right now they are moving the remnants of their western sea fleet to join with their eastern sea fleet and they have more ships than we do in the area. Even if we can muster the equal number of ships they will remain in their home waters. If we engage them there, we would have a supply line too long to protect.”

Admiral Yanagata spoke.

“Gentlemen, that’s why we have to entice the eastern sea fleet into a decisive confrontation. We will invade Louyang and the enemy will react in such a way that they will be enticed to respond in a position of force. The Republican Navy will send their Eastern Sea fleet with elements from their West Sea Fleet. We will make them commit their navy in a trap. The Northern Fleet, together with the Marine Corps will Invade Louyang. Then The Eastern Fleet will lie and wait for The Republican Navy 200 miles northeast of Louyang. The Invasion force will be the decoy. A picket line of 20 Destroyers and frigates from the Southern fleet will be 700 miles due northwest of Louyang and will act as scouts for both the eastern and northern fleets. We expect the enemy to approach from the northwest.”


Adm. Ayayumi raised a hand as to question the chief of the naval general staff.

“Yes admiral Ayayumi?”

“Sir, how do we know that the Republican Navy will approach us from the northwest?”

“Because they will not avoid an opportunity to destroy the Allied convoy along the way. And the Northern Fleet is due southwest of Louyang, that would be a great position for an attack. They would think that we would be crossing their “T” when in fact they will be caught in a pincer maneuver. So gentlemen, we will intentionally leak the invasion plan to the Republican Navy omitting the information about the planned pincer maneuver and the presence of the Eastern fleet due northeast of Louyang.”

Admiral Kurita spoke again.

“Intel, what is the latest intelligence report on the location and apparent strength of the Republican Navy’s Eastern Sea Fleet?”

Rr. Adm. Wakira nodded to her aide and the aide distributed documents to the admirals and their staffs.

“The Republican Navy as of two weeks ago, has made changes from its observed war time operations. They used to do marauding tactics, destroying enemy ships in one on one engagements. But now they have adopted to the changes the war has put on them and has since then been engaging in naval blockades like in Aldebaran and convoy stalking. They also have made new acquisitions like 3 new battleships, all bought from the Geffenian Republic, The Minas Guerras former GRS Glast Heim, 9 16” guns in 3 turrets, two forward one aft, top speed 33 knots; The General Belgrano former GRS Britoniah, 8 15” guns mounted in 4 turrets, 2 forward 2 aft, top speed 32 knots; and the Arc’ du Triumph former GRS Independence, same class as of the Britoniah and transferred 3 cruisers, 2 light one heavy, from their West Sea fleet. Right now they are having naval exercises 800 miles west of Amatsu. As for naval strength in the area, they have 31 battleships, 16 heavy cruisers, 14 light cruisers, 50 destroyers and 65 frigates.”


Admiral Yanagata spoke in response to the intelligence report.

“Admiral Masahari, the condition of your command?”

Adm. Masahari nodded to his aide, and the aide distributed copies of the status of the Eastern Fleet.

“The Eastern Fleet has 25 battleships, 14 heavy and 12 light cruisers, 35 destroyers and 40 frigates. All ships are combat effective 100%. Ships stores are at full capacity and crew competency is above standard fleet regulations. All ships except for frigates in patrol duty are in harbor at Alberta Island Naval Base”

Admiral Yanagata nodded at the commander of his eastern fleet. “Northern Fleet, what is your status?”

The aide of Adm. Kurita already distributed his commander’s handouts before he uttered a word.

“Northern Fleet has 24 battleships, 15 heavy and 18 light cruisers, 34 destroyers and 55 frigates All ships are combat effective 100%. Ships stores are at full capacity and crew competency is above standard fleet regulations. All ships are currently in Harbor at Kwajalein Naval Base in Amatsu ”

Admiral Yanagata spoke to the commander of the Southern Sea Fleet.

“Admiral Nagara, the Condition of your Command?”

Adm. Nagara’s aide distributed as well the copies of the Southern Fleet’s Status.

“Admiral, the Southern Fleet has 28 operational battleships 3 under routine maintenance, 19 heavy and 16 light cruisers, 49 destroyers, 6 currently conducting patrols near the border of Alberta and Morroc, and 67 frigates, 18 are escorting the destroyers on patrol. All ships except those in routine maintenance are combat effective 100%. Ships stores are at full capacity and crew competency is above standard fleet regulations. All ships except those on patrol are in harbor at Ichinigawa Naval Base in Turtle Island.”

Adm. Yanagata looked at the commander of the Naval Expeditionary Forces and asked “The status of the NEF?”

Adm. Nobutake smiled as his aide distributed as well the copies of the Status Report.

“Admiral, The Naval Expeditionary Forces has 22 heavy and 29 light cruisers, 40 destroyers and 59 frigates. All ships are combat effective 100%. Ships stores are at full capacity and crew competency is above standard fleet regulations. All ships are currently in Dutch Harbor Naval Base in Izlude.”

Adm. Yanagata looked at the Commander of the Marine Corps.

“General, what is the status of the Royal Marines?”

General Hakone stood up and mentioned his aide to stay seated.

“With all due respect, sir, the royal marines will do what its told to do but if we are just going to be used as a diversion, and the deaths of countless marines for the cause of just a diversion, we would be sacrificed like cattle. I don’t want my soldiers to die out there for a just a diversion.”

Admiral Yanagata smiled and said
“The Invasion of Louyang isn’t just a diversion. The Imperial Army will follow after the marines have established a beachhead. Then the occupation of Louyang will follow. Therefore you wouldn’t be fighting a lost cause.”

Adm. Yanagata looked at all his naval commanders and said.

“We must be deft in this offensive stroke to impede the presence of the Schwaltzwald Republican Navy’s presence in the Eastern Sea. But in doing so we will suffer numerous casualties. The most logical method of ending the Influence of the Republican Navy in the Eastern sea is to provoke them in a single decisive engagement. The invasion of Louyang will determine the resolve of the Republican Navy and test our own strength.”

He continued to speak

“These are your new orders. Intelligence, Draft a false message to the Northern Fleet Headquarters telling them of operation: Sea Dragon. Use a cipher that the Republican Navy already broken but don’t let them be informed of our real intentions. Two days after the message is sent to the Northern Fleet, the Northern fleet will sail due southwest course 165 for two days at speed 16. the change heading due southwest speed 32. you will maintain speed and course until 300 miles southwest of Louyang. The Royal Naval Sealift Command will rendezvous with you there. The NSC will carry the divisions of the Royal Marines and establish a beachhead. The Northern Fleet will support the invasion by bombarding the shore defenses of Louyang."

He paused to look at the commanders and saw that their aides were taking note while his aide is distributing the orders to the commanders.

“While the Northern fleet is in transit, the Eastern fleet will leave from their base and sail on a heading due North Northeast course 021. That will take you exactly 500 miles northeast of Louyang. There the eastern fleet will maintain radio silence and wait for the Republican Navy’s Eastern Sea Fleet. I will personally direct the battle here at Combined fleet Headquarters.”

He then looked at Admiral Ayayumi.

“The Naval Expeditionary Forces will take over patrol responsibility from the Northern Fleet. 20 destroyers and frigates from the Southern Fleet are to act as scouts producing a picket line that runs on a northeast to southwest axis. After sighting the enemy, they will transmit the location and head for the nearest allied naval base which is Lancaster Naval Base at St. Capitolina Abbey, or the Taishung Naval Station at Kunlun. The Shore batteries at Taishung and Lancaster will give some security.”
