Problem updating server--SOLVED

Make your own qrRO server!

Postby Xandruan » Sat Aug 13, 2005 7:37 am

Ok, I got Dalton back up yesterday, but users were complaining of sprite errors on the Basic Bow and certain costumes.
I had the 0.7 version at tht time.

I took down the server, downloaded the 0.72 server, ran the MySQL update, reconfigured the conf files, then ran the server, the problem is, the DOS windows keep closing and re-opening themselves. So it never loaded anything.

After that I uninstalled it, and went back to 0.7, and It has the same problem(after running fine earlier in the day)

A response would be appreciated, as Dalton cant boot up at the moment.

First of all, why didnt u make a backup? ^^
Second of all, i think something's wrong with the char-server.exe in 0.72
It says cant find conf/plugins_athena.conf and conf/packets_athena.conf or something i think
I tried many different things, then i dled the 0.7 and all worked fine untill the login-server part :D

no error messages came up, the server windows just kept restarting themselves.

Any ideas on how to fix it? the 0.7 is currently doing the same.

@Ryuujin: I had to update, there were Missing NPCs and too many sprite errors

i know, i know ^^
run the char-server.exe in cmd (can u say that? xD )
i mean enter the direction of the char-server.exe like for me D:\Games\ServerStuff\RO\qrROServer_0.72\char-server.exe in a command thingy ^^ then it doesnt close immediatly and u can read what errors it has.
about 0.7... make sure u configured everything right. it didnt work for me once too, but then i checked everything again, changed something and it worked again :D

char server would never just close down
well if it does, not sure about it

the map server I can understand, it's the following reasons:
1. You are missing the maps for it
2. One of your NPCs is corrupt and has to be blocked/removed/edited

Login-server usually if can't find the host login server, then it would close down

it just reopens when u start it with start_servers.bat, infinite spawn opens it over and over. If u start the char-server.exe it closes immediately without reopening. Hmm, how should that help him? ;)

hm, i think it is a bug in my system, seeing as it has been laggy as shit for no reason recently(not because of the servers, cos it was before i set them up) so i am wiping the HDD and reinstalling everything from scratch....hopefully itll work, if not, then at least i have cleared any other errors it may have.

it's not how much data you have stored in your HD
but it is how MUCH of that data you are using at that time

consider your Commit Charge, CPU Usage, and RAM dedication
meaning just press Alt+Ctrl+Delete
then go to the tabs processes
then clear everything except the following

svchost.exe
isass.exe
services.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
smss.exe
system
system idle process
the programs listed above cannot be closed either way

and if you are running the sql server, do not close

sqlserv.exe | Owner | XX | (rand 3000,8000)<---minimum charge

you may close
explorer.exe, however if you close this, your desktop will disappear
if you have a worm virus, explorer.exe will perpetually jump in its commit charge making it take as much as 30-90% of your CPU Usage.

while running the servers, make sure your CPU Usage does not jump any more than 40%
if servers not running, make sure it does not jump further than 5%

if it is lag you are complaining about, this is your answer

curose u dont those are software not hardware
