i just started a new "business enterprise", a Private Dormitory near Ateneo.

so This building has 4 floors, 24 rooms in each floor, and i want to have a computer in each room connected to the internet. so i had told this to a computer store where i bought my first computer, so he told me to buy 96 computers, so i bought 96 Computers (Intel Pentuim 4 extreme edition Dual Core with Hyperthreading and 3.20gHz with a 512Mb DDR that has 80GB hard disk Mother board is Intel® Desktop Board D955XBK ) so that alone is already a huge investment, let alone the construction of the building.

so here's another thing he told me, I need a good Network Server for the Dorm network so I bought a HP Integrity Superdome server powered by1.6 GHz Intel® Itanium® 2 processor with up to 9MB of L3 cache or mx2 dual-processor modules.

My desktop adaptors are Intel® PRO/1000 MT Server Adapter
Intel IXE2426** (free)

so here's the question, i have spent over $87,272 (P4,800,000)on computers alone and another $ 1,418 (P 77,990) on the server. HAVE I BEEN RIPPED OFF? or is it a good buy?

in terms of performance, I'm not into the appearance, i am going to hide the server, not show it in public.

so what is the difference in terms of performance, between an IBM Server and a HP server?

the computers seem fine for a free one - since i'm guessing you'll let them 'borrow' the PC if they rent out the room, so don't worry about it.

I think your plan now is to place alot of firewalls and anti virus software on the main gateway PC and the same on the other computers (since they could always bring in a disk with a virus on it).

Anyway, that is a huge chunk of change - I hope your business succeeds!

(Note: Personally, I would have built the machines myself and opted for AMD processors, but hey, whatever works)

i think if you ordered that much amount of computers you should've ordered directly from hp or w/e since they offer price breaks for certain amounts

You would build over 96 computers on your own? O_o

I have ordered the PC's at the Authorized Distributor of HP products here.

as for AMD, Well, the students at ateneo despise AMD. i kinda like AMD but its the costumers that are important right?

personally if it were to be a SERVER-only
then I would have gotten Intel Pentium Xeon (<---designed for servers)
or else, I would have agreed with Codemaster, an AMD 3600+
for connection, I would choose OC48 to connect those 96 computers up
and yea... personally I would trust IBM and not HP
HP <--- my country designs this, and we may know about computer science but we sure don't know how to design it perfectly -_-

IBM is all American ^_^
Pentium Xeon
1,024 (512*2) Dual-Channel DDR memory, PC3200
80 GB (should be enough) 7200 RPM
OC 48 connection, with a REALLY nice firewall because this shit is fast

well you said you got 96 computers for for about 87k
that means you paid about $900 average
so I would say, you got a good deal, but not the greatest

yep - $900 for that computer, i'd say they were a tiny bit overpriced, but not by much, so you did fine.
