this is my first time building my own computer and i'm uber eager to learn as much as i can before and while i'm doing it. I've begun looking into what will buy, but pretty much, i'll give you my non techie version of what i want:

i want a computer that's powerful and fast, but not overly expensive. Also, i want to equip it with 2 monitors....later on in my future maybe 3, depending on if i will need any more space.

I have very minimal knowledge on what's good to buy. Like what brand of motherboard to get and what exactly i should get on it in order for it to be compatible with the whole computer AND be what i want.

I'm looking for help. I want to get the best possible....everything within my price range, but since i have a very minimal knowledge of the good brands and stuff of computer parts, i would love it if someone would be my sensei so to speak. If anyone would like to be a good friend...i would love you forever ^___^

if you are interested in being my sensei, please e-mail me: sensualrenegade@gmail.com

I recommend going with AMD over Intel - as just a personal preference, but you can do what you want there.

You want to get a PCI-Express graphics card, since all the cards are heading that way now.
You will also want to get a SCSI hard drive (if you have money to spend) or at least a SATA drive - IDEs are a tad slower, while SCSI is uber-fast and SATA is faster than IDE, but slower than SCSI.

Note: In my new system, I am using a Western Digital Raptor SATA Hard Drive, which is 76 GB, but it's RPM is 10,000 which makes it the fastest SATA Hard Drive on the market, currently. (And if you run it in RAID 0, you will be quite satisfied with speed)

Yes, im going to recommend going SATA too, because its cheaper, and besides...you only need so much speed depending on what you need to do with it.

But, ive had better experience with intels....X_X i have bad experiences with AMD's lol.

im running on a pentium 3 3ghz, 512 mb ram CPU.

just bought a brand new graphics card :-D other one got FRIED lol. its a PCI express ATI Radeon X700 pro which comes with everything you need to setup for 2-3 monitors (currently using S-Video to use TV as a monitor, as well as my regular monitor)

does the PCI-Express graphics card support multiple monitors? Because i'm going to start off with 2. Main reason being b/c of projects and stuff i use so much space.

about the SCSI hard drive, can you give me some price ranges on it and stuff? I want to see what i can get. I use a lot of programs at once (it's been my downfall at times) and i just want to make sure i don't have any problems.

I was leaning towards an AMD 64 processor anyways b/c it's the one i have in my current computer and it's been pretty reliable.

What about motherboards? I've never bought one. What's a good one to get that's not way too expensive?

what's RAID 0

thanks guys. I want to build an awesome computer ^___^

Yes, pci express cards can come with support for multiple monitors.

sweet. thanks.

What about a motherboard? That i DEFINETLY don't know much about. I mean, i know what it looks like and generally where to connect stuff (i took my old computer apart and studied it for like 2 hours) but i don't know any good brands or nothin.
