If anyone plays it, hit me up. And if you haven't, well it destroyed my life, and it can destroy yours if you give it a chance!

I'll play a few games with ya. My competitive days are behind me, pub stomping THR is more my thing now, and has a much more generous schedule (afaik, none).

HoN is iffy, they overdone all the animations imo. It's just noise to me. And the public stat tracking is a horrible idea, everyone strutting their e-peens with more bitching than ever is not a pretty sight.

@CM: Dota is a 5v5 RTS RPG hybrid in that it's essentially an RTS where you control only one hero. There's a pool of about 100 different heroes, each with their own skillsets of 4 or more skills. You then do your RPG thing, where you level them up, collect gold, buy a variety items (also in the hundreds), and ultimately destroy each other's Thrones. The catch? You're opponents are looking to do the same thing. Basic gameplay involves two teams, each with a main base housing the throne, 3 paths with 3 towers in each path to serve as checkpoints, a river to split the map in two, and two distinct forests on either side. Every 30 seconds, a wave of creeps spawn in each lane for each team, marching towards the other's throne. These creeps are the main source of income. Through leveling up, collecting items, learning skills, you gain an advantage over your opponent (or vice-versa) leading to kills of the opposing hero, etc. I'm sure there's a more in-depth explanation somewhere.

I have some HoN keys if you want to try a game that has similar gameplay to dota. And by similar, I mean identical. Like. Same. Exactly same.

dota is pretty fun, got my friend hooked on it and he plays more than me now lol. We play via Garena since its free lol, but the connection is horrid, since its filled with leavers/laggers :/

Garena usually has less leavers than b.net. And as for laggers, you gotta pick your games.

I hate Garena so much.....soooo muuuuuch <_<
I don't mind the b.net leavers too much especially when playing with friends who all run banlists that extends out all over the place.

well bnet's banlist is actually a seperate program that you can comment on, and depending on which one you use, it also saves the IP with that Username, so if they move to another computer with a different ip and use the same username they still get owned.

No one uses banlist anymore, LC is the norm. No one takes private bans seriously. Your best bet on bnet for non-leaver pub games is THR, because of stat-tracking and somewhat of a private community. Otherwise, TDA/DXD are both relatively open leagues now. THR2 too.

Less leavers on Garena in general, quality of players is *slightly* higher than that of bnet.

Some pretty good mid-skill teams in euro/asian clan rooms though, but that's not really casual play.

Well we use banlist, Listchecker, and the rest of the more common dota tools, bots help keep up with this easier.
IMO I found the quality of players in Garena lower, but after playing HoN I think they're better on there
Dota is okay if you can handle leavers.

Really, because I find Garena pub > bnet pub > Hon pub.

Banlist does weird things with LC.

Again, there's almost no leavers in most private communities. TDA/DXD, while still somewhat public, probably have the average skill of the top 3-5% of regular pubs, [that's to say the best player in every 3 games you play is DXD/TDA], as well as a couple pros there to stomp.

TDA is a joke now IMO
Garena sucks because it lags waaay too much, albeit the players never leave
HoN is a mix of it all since it depends how you choose your games, IE A High Pub Ranking game gives you a higher chance of playing a good game, and leaver restrictions
Although it might lead to like gloating and crap, but who cares if you can beat them. Dota is an elitist game.

TDA is a shadow of its former self, sure. But pretty much every 1800+ 2000+ game is filled with TDA/DXD quality players. Most mid/high-skilled dota players don't frequent HoN.

DoP is an exception.

Ironically, although I've never played DotA, I'm now working as a programmer at Riot Games, the company that makes the DotA-esque game League of Legends (LoL).

If you guys PM or IM me, I'll try to toss you a free code or somesuch :)

i like far to many Dos games to be naming them out right, Doom, Warcraft, Settlers, but if i think back to the very first dos game i ever played and the games that made me love computer gaming then there are two games, Transport Tycoon, and Elite.
